This is a great place to go for a walk or to have a picnic. People play with their dogs here, there are the courts, and the rose garden. There are also some homeless, but they pretty much keep to themselves. There are benches every so often along the perimeter to sit at and this is a place to see if there is an event happening. They also tend to have yoga or pilates in the park.
This clearing at the edge of town once functioned as a firebreak between Anchorage and its neighboring forest. At other times, it acted as an airstrip, a golf course and even a makeshift housing development, when people lived here during the s boom in apartments created out of old barracks. Today the Park Strip—just one block wide but 13 blocks long—is home to ball fields, a gym, ice rink and a giant steam locomotive. Parking spaces available all along 10th street on the park side. Two soccer field, 6 softball field, 8 tennis courts, two sand volley ball pits, 5 horseshoe pits, one ice hockey rink, general ice skating area and a winter running route around the park, fitness center at Pete's Gym, memorials to the Pope, Martin Luther King Jr. Robertson tree, a flag pole and memorial to Veterans, a bandstand, rose garden. This area was established in as the original township plat.

It was originally Anchorage's airfield. It was established as part of the original Anchorage township plat in and named for James Delaney , one of the first mayors of Anchorage. Anchorage residents, working for free, had prepared a by foot landing field for Noel Wien to fly Jimmy Rodebaugh's newly arrived Standard J Wien's first flight took place on 4 June , and by the end of the month had flown passengers, two at a time in the front cockpit, on a 15 minute ride.
